Green-tea

When it's not wine or coffee time, it is certainly tea time. Lately though I have had a slight obsession for green tea. Packed with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial antioxidants, you can rest assured your immune system will get the boost it needs to eliminate free radicals and unwanted toxins that may have potentially led to disease.
Another super power of this tea is aiding in wait loss by boosting the secretion of lipids, so, if you are going to indulge in a fat packed meal, be sure to have a cup ready. If your stomach is a little on the sensitive side take note of the when you should indulge in a cuppa to reap the most benefits with the least side effects.

Should I have a cup first thing in the morning?

According to Chinese medicine, taking a cup of tea on an empty stomach could potentially cause the lungs and stomach to become very cold. Besides, the caffeine found in green tea could make you slightly woozy, a bit dehydrated, or even speed up production of gastric acid if taken on an empty stomach.  You certainly don't want to deal with an upset stomach or ulcers early in the morning, so be sure to avoid it as the first drink of the day.

What about tea with my meal?

Some research also shows that if taken with meals, it inhibits the absorption of thiamin aka vitamin B1. In the long run, deficiency of the B1 could lead to beriberi. Wait a while - say 20 minutes after a hearty meal to down a cup.

Should I have green tea right before bed?

Finally, because green tea has a punch of caffeine, you may be wondering if it would serve you well to drink it right before bed - well, yes and no, based on personal experience, I would say stick to Oolong Tea which you should try to drink atleast an hour before bed. It has less caffeine and will work wonders getting rid of that bad cholesterol while you snooze.

Need an instant energy boost?

If you are looking for a midday pick me up during the day, try Indian or Kenyan green tea which have been proven to have rather high amounts of caffeine.

Hope this helped, in the mean time, check out this infographic from HelloNatural and pick your tea - who knows, we might just bump into each other and share a few chuckles over a nice cuppa tea! 'Til next Thursday! x
